Understanding Medicaid Coverage & Limitations
At Free Yourself, we work hard to make mental health care accessible—especially for those using Colorado Medicaid. Here’s what you need to know about Medicaid appointment limitations and coverage to help you get the most from your therapy.
How Often Can I Attend Therapy with Medicaid?
Medicaid allows up to two therapy sessions per week, but not on the same day. You may:
See the same therapist twice in a week, on separate days
See multiple therapists, depending on your needs (e.g., individual therapy & EMDR therapy with different providers)
This flexibility allows you to build a care plan that truly supports your unique goals and healing process.
Is Therapy Free with Medicaid?
Therapy services are typically fully covered by Medicaid:
60-Minute New Intake Session
60-Minute Individual Therapy Sessions
90-Minute EMDR Therapy Sessions
Please note that we are not currently accepting new Couples & Family Counseling clients with Medicaid, but each member in the relationship or family with an eligible Medicaid plan may see a therapist at Free Yourself .
Important: Medicaid coverage can change. While we do our best to verify your coverage monthly, you are ultimately responsible for confirming that your Medicaid plan is active and eligible before each session. We highly recommend calling your insurance provider directly, as online portals can be outdated or may not reflect real-time details.
What Happens if My Medicaid Coverage Ends?
If your Medicaid plan ends, lapses, or changes, your sessions will no longer be covered. In this case, you will be responsible for payment at your clinician’s self-pay rate, which ranges from $100–$175 per 60-minute session. Please view individual clinician rates here.
